Position Title: Principal

Contract: 226 Days
Location: Matagorda ISD
Primary Purpose
Provide strong instructional leadership and campus management that ensures a safe, supportive, and academically rigorous learning environment for all students. The principal will lead MISD’s focus on high expectations, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications Education/Certification
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution
- Valid Texas Principal Certification
- Certified T-TESS Appraiser (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years successful classroom teaching experience
- Campus or district-level leadership experience preferred
- Demonstrated success with instructional leadership, coaching, and school improvement initiatives
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of effective instructional practices and data-driven decision making
- Knowledge of SPED, 504, RTI/MTSS, ESL, and state/federal accountability systems
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage campus operations, safety, and discipline procedures
Major Responsibilities
- Serve as the instructional leader of the campus, ensuring high-quality instruction in every classroom
- Lead implementation of MISD instructional priorities including Strong Foundations, Bluebonnet HQIM, and targeted improvement goals
- Foster a campus culture that reflects MISD’s values: Family. Trust. High Expectations.
- Supervise and evaluate campus staff; provide coaching and professional development
- Oversee daily campus operations, schedules, budgeting, and safety protocols
- Monitor and utilize student performance data to guide instruction and intervention
- Ensure compliance with district policies, TEA requirements, and all state/federal regulations
- Strengthen communication and partnerships with families and the Matagorda community
Salary
