REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL
ROLE AND PURPOSE:
Respond to the unique needs of individual students and groups of students. Provide guidance services to students, testing coordination, information interpretation services, career and college information, and student schedule recommendations. Assist students in plans for high school graduation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree
Valid Texas teaching certificate
Valid Texas counseling certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of tests and testing procedures
Knowledge of computers and their use in instruction and administration
Physical ability to perform job duties
Experience:
Three years of successful teaching experience

15. Serve as a member of the Attendance and ARD committee.
16. Assess campus guidance and counseling program needs.
17. Focus the guidance and counseling program toward accomplishing the district’s
stated goals and objectives.
18. Plan, conduct, and/or assist with staff development programs or workshops for
individual schools, district personnel, parents, or community.
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
19. Effectively plan the school guidance and counseling programs to meet identified needs.
20. Prepare strategies for both problem intervention and prevention to meet the individual
needs of students.
21. Promote a positive environment and improve student morale.
22. Assist in the development and implementation of the campus/district plan for drug-free schools and community.
23. Assist in curriculum development for guidance and counseling programs in the district.
24. Assist with health, psychological, and legal referrals for special programs students.
25. Assist in the development and revisions of the district’s guidance and counseling curriculum and policies/procedures.
26. Use the district’s guidance and counseling curriculum in providing services to students.
27. Interpret test results to students, teachers, and parents techniques for community and parent involvement.
28. Adhere to the policies and procedures established by the district’s guidance and counseling plan.
29. Group students for guidance/counseling services based on student needs.
30. Use the district’s guidance and counseling curriculum in providing services to students.
31. Counsel students in groups or individually to increase personal growth, self-esteem, good study habits, and test-taking skills.
32. Counsel students in groups or individually to provide assistance in meeting educational, occupational, and personal needs.
33. Group students for guidance/counseling services based on students’ needs.
34. Counsel with At-Risk students in support of failure prevention.
35. Have at least one quality eye-to-eye counseling session with each assigned student annually.
36. Keep confidential the counseling relationship and information except when the student’s condition requires intervention.
37. Assist in diagnosing and assessing the learning needs of individual students.
38. Collect and interpret test data for use in student placement and instructional programs.
39. Assist in procedures for course selection and groupings of students.
40. Collect, analyze, and report student data for external tests including, PSAT, SAT, and ACT.
41. Provide crisis counseling and consultation to students.
42. Assist students in developing four-year high school graduation plans.
43. Check student’s transcripts for correct course placement and accuracy to ensure that state and district requirements are fulfilled before graduation.
44. Provide current information on reference guides and colleges. Maintain appropriate career information for students.
45. Coordinate the college scholarship process.
46. Assist students with the application process for college admission, scholarship, financial aid, and alternative post-high school training.
47. Administer advanced placement tests.
48. Promote a positive environment and improve student morale.
49. Demonstrate support for the district’s student management system.

50. Stay current with the state, district, and school policies for public school guidance and counseling.
51. Serve as a role model for all students and parents.
52. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and generally in accord with accepted community standards and the TEA Code of Ethics.
53. Assist parents in developing realistic perceptions about their child’s aptitudes, abilities, interests, and development.
54. Provide consulting services to parents, teachers, and administrators.
55. Work cooperatively with and coordinate the use of community referral agencies.
56. Organize and conduct parent workshops or study groups as needs are identified.
57. Perform other duties assigned.
