REPORTS TO: Principal                   


           ROLE AND PURPOSE:

Evaluate and provide leadership for the overall instructional program of the district including

Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, Accountability, and Professional Development.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Certification/Education:

Master’s Degree in educational administration;

Texas mid-management or other appropriate Texas certification;

Valid Texas teaching certificate;

Certified instructional supervisor and appraiser in the T-Tess Appraisal System.  

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of curriculum instruction;

Ability to evaluate the instructional program and teaching effectiveness;

Ability to manage budget and personnel;

Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.  

Minimum Experience:

Three years of successful classroom teaching experience;

Three years of experience in instructional leadership roles.  


Major Responsibilities and Duties        

Instructional Management                                                                                 

   1.  Assist the principal in the overall administration and serve as principal in the absence 

         of the regular principal.

                                                                                                                                               

   2.  Assist the principal in monitoring the instructional and managerial processes to 

ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and to use these findings 

for corrective action and improvement, as well as for recognition of success.                               

 

   3.  Work with the principal/staff to plan, implement, and evaluate the curriculum on a systematic 

        basis.  

                                                                                                                            

    4.  Supervise the preparation of student schedules.                                                            

 

SCHOOL/ ORGANIZATIONAL CLIMATE         

 

   5.  Foster collegiality and team building among staff.                                                       

 

   6.  Provide two-way communication with the principal, parents, staff, students and            

         community.                                                                                                                    

                                                                                                                                    

   7.  Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance from staff and 

students; recognize excellence and achievement.                  

 

   8.  Demonstrate skills in anticipating, managing, and resolving conflict.

         students, staff, and the community.

SCHOOL/ ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT

                 

   12. Work with the principal/staff to build a common vision for school improvement.                  

         

   13. Work with principal to direct planning activities and implement programs collaboratively with staff to ensure successful grade transition and attainment of the school’s mission.           

 

   14. Work with the principal/staff in development, implementation, and evaluation of campus        

         improvement plan.                                                                                                          

 

          

Personnel Management                  

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management         

   15. Work with the principal to define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional    

         strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.

 

   16.    Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation 

conferences with assigned staff.

 

   17. Comply with District policies and emergency protocols as well as state and federal laws  

         and regulations affecting the schools.

                   

   18. Assist principal/staff in developing budgets based upon documented program needs,      

         established enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs.                                                  

 

   19. Manage the use of school facilities; supervise maintenance of facilities as assigned to     

         ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.                                                          

 

   20. Act as campus textbook custodian, as assigned.                                                           

 

   21. Maintain campus inventory of capital outlay, as assigned.                                            

                  

STUDENT MANAGEMENT                                                                                    

         

   22. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed behavior intervention plans developed   

         and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.                                                    

 

   23. Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and school 

         issues.                                                                                                                            

 

   24. Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and work with attendance 

         officer for investigative follow-up activities.                                                                    

 

   25. Promote a positive environment and improve student morale.                                       

                                                                                                                               

   26. Demonstrate support for the district’s student management system. 

                                

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT                                             

         

   27. Use information and insights provided through assessment instruments, the District         

         Appraisal Process, evaluative feedback from line supervisors, and professional

         development programs to improve performance.                                                              

 

   28. Provide leadership in addressing challenges facing the profession; pursue professional   

         development activities; disseminate information to other professionals.

                                                                                                          

School/Community Relations                                                                           

 

   29. Develop and maintain a plan for professional improvement.                                         

 

   30. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, responsible, and generally in accord   

         with accepted community standards and the TEA Code of Ethics; serve as a role model

         for all students and staff.

 

   31. Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support                             

 

   32. Demonstrate awareness of school/community needs and initiate activities to meet those 

         identified needs.

 

  33. Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

  34. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.                                                  

 

  35. Maintain confidentiality and model professionalism at all times for students and staff.
