REPORTS TO: Superintendent
ROLE AND PURPOSE:
Direct and manage the operations of the district childcare center. Plan and implement operations and program following the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) and district guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Child Development Associate credential or Certified Child Care Professional credential with six college credit
hours in management
Valid Child Care Center Director’s Certificate issued by the Texas Department of Family Protective Services
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Thorough understanding of childcare center operations
Effective organizational, communication, computer, and interpersonal skills
Ability to coordinate center functions
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Demonstrated knowledge of state childcare guidelines and licensing requirements
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Experience:
Two years experience in a licensed childcare center
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Child Care Operations
1. Maintain high quality childcare standards based on developmentally appropriate practices.
2. Facilitate the planning and coordination of the children's educational programs and activities.
3. Assure consistent compliance with all Texas DFPS Minimum Standards, including maintenance of annual
fire, health, and other inspections.
4. Coordinate the annual licensing of the childcare center with Texas DFPS.
5. Maintain consistent, open, and effective communication with parents while providing education training
and support as needed.
6. Provide reliable, accurate, and timely information about the childcare center to interested parties.
7. Attend professional development seminars to maintain an understanding of the current best practices of
curriculum and administrative functions of child development programs.
Policy, Reports, and Law
8. Implement federal and state law, Department of Family Protective Services rule, and board policy
9. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
10. Maintain accurate records on children enrolled in the program to include their development, attendance,
immunization, and general health.
11. Prepare reports to Child Protection Services (CPS) and other agencies to ensure the safety and well-being
of enrollees.
12. Ensure employee time records are accurately maintained and data necessary to process payroll is delivered
in a timely manner.
Budget and Inventory
13. Develop and administer budget based on documented needs and ensure operations are cost effective and
funds are managed prudently.
14. Develop and implement inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies and recommend
replacement and disposal of obsolete equipment as necessary.
15. Execute an effective marketing plan (both internal and external) to maintain desired enrollment.
Professional Growth and Development
16. Oversee the training and professional development of all childcare staff.
School or Community Relations
17. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
18. Articulate the center’s mission to employees and other stakeholders and solicit support in realizing
the mission.
19. Interact with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds with sensitivity and fairness.
Personnel Management
20. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention,
discipline, and dismissal.
21. Prepare, review, and revise job descriptions for childcare center positions.
22. Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operations.
Safety
23. Ensure measures are in place and operating to protect students, staff, supplies, and equipment.
24. Maintain safety standards conforming with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program
of preventive safety.
25. Implement and follow district safety protocols and emergency protocols.
26. Maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of childcare center staff*
