Systems Technician


Reports to: Director of Technology
Primary Purpose:
Manage and maintain the district’s technology infrastructure to ensure reliable and secure
operation of all systems. The Systems Technician supports educational and administrative goals
by ensuring that technology resources are effectively deployed, monitored, and maintained.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
(preferred).
Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA
Network+/Security+, VMware Certified Professional) (if applicable).
Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in systems administration, preferably in a K-12 or
educational setting.
Knowledge/Skills:
  •  Proficient in Windows Server, Active Directory, and group policy management.
  •  Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  •  Understanding of network protocols and configurations (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  •  Familiarity with cloud-based solutions and services, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • System Management
  •  Install, configure, and maintain district servers, storage systems, and virtual environments.
  •  Administer and monitor the performance of network systems, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Oversee the deployment and management of operating systems, applications, and updates across district devices.
  • Security and Compliance
  •  Implement and maintain security protocols, including firewalls, antivirus, and endpoint protection systems.
  •  Regularly back up district data and perform disaster recovery testing.
  •  Ensure compliance with all relevant data privacy and security standards (e.g., FERPA, COPPA).
  • Support and Troubleshooting
  •  Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for technology issues escalated by the help desk team.
  •  Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
  •  Monitor systems and proactively address potential performance or security concerns.
  • Planning and Coordination
  •  Collaborate with instructional and administrative staff to assess and address technology needs.
  •  Research and recommend upgrades, enhancements, and new technologies to support district goals.
  •  Maintain detailed documentation of systems, configurations, and processes.
  • Vendor and Contract Management
  •  Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers
Working Conditions:
Environment: Office-based with frequent travel to district campuses and sites.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift and transport technology equipment (up to 50 pounds).
Schedule: Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed during emergencies or planned system maintenance.
