Position:  Library Director, Palacios Texas
 
Location: Palacios is a beautiful and quiet coastal community located along the shores of Tres Palacios Bay that enjoys public beaches, lighted fishing piers, marinas, paved coastal boardwalks, public parks and playgrounds, and a wonderful local public school system.

The Palacios Library was founded and funded by local individuals who believe that everyone should have access to improving their lives through literacy. As we have since opening in 1910, we serve our multi-cultured population by offering access to free services that advance education, technological access, and entertainment. Our goal is to equip individuals with the information and resources they need to advance the quality of their lives.

Summary:  Our current librarian has been with us more than 20 years and is nearing retirement. The position is full time and includes two half-day Saturdays each month.  The ideal librarian should have a friendly personality, work well with others, be able to manage volunteer and tutoring staff, possess computer skills, order books for adults and children, regularly check mail and email, manage the main library and our branch library in nearby Blessing, manage our after school homework program, collaborate with other non-profits in the community, be a part of local programs such as the Chamber of Commerce (the library is a member),  attend library board meetings (7 meetings a year which includes an annual open house), and other duties as assigned.  

Salary and Benefits: $35,000-$45,000 yearly, based on training and experience. Two weeks paid vacation per year and a contribution toward health insurance. 

Job Requirements:
1.       Education and experience
a.       Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, library science coursework preferred
b.       Equivalent technical training, education and other experience will be considered
c.       Valid driver’s license
2.        Knowledge, skills and abilities:
a.       Understands and performs functions of common software programs and email application
b.       Uses and helps others with computer hardware and software
c.       Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures (will be trained)
d.       Thorough knowledge of library circulation practices and procedures as well as the Tex Share database (will be trained)
e.       Skills in working with public, public speaking and other library programs
f.        Skills in written and spoken business communication
g.       Working knowledge of Spanish, the operation of computers and office machines, and standard office software products, electronic resources, internet and databases
h.       Ability to manage volunteers, staff and tutors
